In Search of Gold is Thangalaan in one line.

Horror, Mysticism and Rebirth concept from Hinduism and Buddhism has been blended in the Screenplay along with Dalit upliftment.

British officer Clement(Daniel Caltogirone) hears about the presence of Gold in a place that's believed to be haunted. Those who go there doesn't come back Alive. He approaches Veppur village, North Arcot to find out whether Gold is available or not in the mysterious place. Thangalaan( Vikram) who is affected by Zamindari system wants to get back his land. So he agrees to go with Officer Clement in search of Gold. With lots of struggles he comes back successfully after Discovering Gold. He gets his land back. Thangalaan isn't too selfish. He not just wants his land back but he wants to Free his entire community from the Zamindari system. He takes his community to the mysterious place to dig Gold..He is attacked by Nagas who are protecting the place.. He also faces Aarathi(Malavika Mohan), a mysterious sorceress who appears only to Thangalaan's eye. She stops him from Digging and Discovering Gold. Who is Aarathi? Is she an imagination or a reality? What is the connection between Thangalaan and Aarathi? Was Thangalaan able to Discover Gold? That's Thangalaan

Thangalaan addresses about how Zamindari system functioned. Unfair taxes were implemented on those who own lands so that those lands can be grabbed by Zamindars. Those who owned the lands, then became slaves for Zamindars. Thangalaan addresses about how unfair Zamindari system was.

Thangalaan addresses about how Varna caste system oppresses Dalits.

Thangalaan addresses about the hardship what Dalit people went through before Discovering Gold in Kolar Gold Fields.

Minus: 1. Slow moving Screenplay 2. Facts are distorted in the Screenplay. Cholas ruled KGF for more than hundred years. From 1004 till 1116, Cholas ruled KGF successfully. Around 1117, Hoysalas captured Kolar and started ruling it driving out cholas from the place. Director Ranjith has shown as if Cholas didn't dig out Gold from Kolar which is untrue.

Overall, A Dalit Upliftment movie from Director Pa. Ranjith!!! Vikram Rocks the show!!!
