Dhanush shines as a Director again. A Simple and Feel Good Film by Dhanush that can be enjoyed with Family!!!
Murugan's(Dhanush) Father Sivanesan(Raj Kiran) owns an idly shop in Sankarapuram village. He prepares Idly through traditional methods. He utilises Ammi Kal and Aatukal for preparing idlies. His recipe earns him a reputation in and around Sankarapuram village and his shop becomes an identity of Sankarapuram village. Murugan who wants to pursue catering course leaves the village. Sivanesan wants Murugan to stay in the village. But Sivanesan prefers to leave the village for his career ambitions. When Murugan is about to go, Sivanesan says that after his time Murugan should take care of his Idly shop. He says that his spirit would be around the idly shop even after his death.

Years roll...Murugan now works in Bangkok...He is about to marry his Boss's (Sathyaraj) daughter Meera (Shalini Pandey) who is a billionaire. The wedding is about to happen in two weeks. Vishnuvardhan's son Ashwin(Arun Vijay) is egoistic and irresponsible. He personally dislikes Murugan as Vishnuvardhan compares him with Murugan frequently. Murugan raises the profit of Vishnuvardhan's company by 15%. This impresses Vishnuvardhan and he comes forward to give his daughter to Murugan.

Murugan receives a call from his mother(Geetha Kailasam) that his Father passed away. Vishnuvardhan says that he cannot cancel the wedding as he has invited many VIP's from across the world. He asks Murugan to come back to Bangkok quickly after completing the formalities.

Vishnuvardhan sends Ramarajan (Ilavarsu) along with Murugan to Sankarapuram village to complete the formalities. Murugan completes the rituals. But unfortunately his Mother also passes away. Murugan doesn't know what to do with his Father's idly shop. He initially tries to sell it to Marisamy(Samuthirakani) who owns a Parotta shop in Sankarapuram but later revokes the decision. He decides to continue the legacy of his Father which is nothing but Idly Kadai. He decides to stay in the village. Meera calls Murugan. Murugan says that he cannot come back and asks her to cancel the wedding. Wedding gets cancelled. Vishnuvardhan sends his son Ashwin to bring back Murugan. What happens after that?That's Idly Kadai.

A Man who lives abroad wants to get back to his native roots. Idly kadai is a story of a man who wants to continue the legacy of his father.

There are people who earn well in abroad but are unable to meet their family in India because of their work. They become Happy after seeing their family and return back to India once again. Idli Kadai addresses it through Ramarajan's character. When Ramarajan returns back to his home after many years, his Mother couldn't recognize him due to her age related illness. That scene has been made well.

Idly kadai addresses about the importance of Non violence.

Idly Kadai addresses that too much of pampering in parenting is not good. It is addressed through Sathyaraj and Arun Vijay's characters.

Idly kadai connected well emotionally. The scene where Murugan is guided by the spirit of his Father Sivanesan has been made well. The scene where a Villager who regularly eats at Sivanesan idly shop becomes emotional when Murugan fine tunes the idly that matches the taste of Sivanesan recipe has been made well and connected well emotionally.

When Sivanesan dies, a cow gives birth to a calf. Murugan's mother considers the calf as Sivanesan's Rebirth. That scene has been made well.

All the characters have been written and utilised well in the Screenplay.

A Man who wants to get back to his native roots..Someone who wants to continue the legacy of his Father...As Murugan Dhanush has performed well.

Egoistic and irresponsible...As Ashwin, Arun Vijay has performed well.

A man who is passionate about making idlies through traditional methods. Someone who believes in Non violence. Someone who guides his son even after his death. As Sivanesan, Raj Kiran has performed well.

A Business man...His son is his weakness and is ready to go to any extent for him... Someone who pampers his son too much...As Vishnuvardhan, Sathyaraj has performed well.

Someone who supports Murugan's parents in his absence. Girlfriend of Murugan during his school days. Someone who supports Murugan for his Idly shop. As Kayal, Nithya Menon has performed well.

A Girl who is about to marry Murugan. Someone who doesn't empathise with Murugan's situation. As Meera, Shalini Pandey has performed well.

A small role. A corrupt cop but a good man. Parthiban has performed well as Inspector Arivu

Someone who accompanies Murugan to complete his Formalities. Someone who supports Murugan. After seeing his Family changes his mind to stay in India. As Ramarajan, Ilavarasu has performed well.

A man who has eyes on Sivanesan's idly shop and Kayal. Someone who is jealous of Murugan. As Marisamy Samuthirakani has performed well.

As Mother of Murugan, Geetha Kailasam has performed well. She has performed well in the scene where she searches for Sivanesan forgetting that he is no more.

Dhanush, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Nithya Menon, Shalini Pandey, Parthiban, Ilavarasu, Samuthirakani and Geetha Kailasam are key performers.

BGM and Songs of GV Prakash Kumar is a Big plus of Idly kadai. G.V. Prakash Kumar music is soul of Idly kadai. Especially, Yen Paatan Saami varum was Soulful.

Cinematography of Kiran Koushik is Impressive. Village has been captured beautifully.

Setwork/Production design is impressive.

Dialogues are written well.

A Good Movie on a Moderate budget.

Minus:

1. There is not much of Velocity in the Screenplay...

2. Technology makes life better...Grinder is better than Ammi kal. Sivanesan and Murugan choosing Ammi Kal over Grinder was a bit absurd.

3. Ashwin (Arun Vijay) is stronger than Murugan( Dhanush). Murugan( Dhanush) bashing Ashwin was a bit funny.

Overall, A Simple and Feel Good Film by Dhanush that can be enjoyed with Family!!!
