Pavunuthayi(Radhika Sarathkumar) lives in her village. She is a loaner who is tough on her debtors. She is hated by the villagers because of her tough nature. She is hated by her sons because she doesn't divide the assets. Her daughter in laws hate her because of it and her tough nature. Her son in law hates her because he was humiliated in the past by her. Her sons are irresponsible. The only person who understands Pavunuthayi is her daughter( Raichal Rebecca)
One day Pavunuthayi becomes bed ridden. Knowing this villagers become Happy. Her sons become Happy because she is going to die soon. Her daughter in laws become happy because she is going to die soon. Her son in law become happy because she is going to die soon.
A Jeweller(Ilavarsu) from Madurai visits Pavunuthayi Home and meets her sons. He says that Pavunuthayi has recently bought 150 sovereign jewels from her shop. This News makes her sons Happy. They want to find out where the Gold is and wants to equally divide and share it among them. If Pavunuthayi dies, they won't know where the Gold is. If she comes back alive and active, they would know where the Gold is. Money makes many things. To attain Gold, her sons come forward to treat her medically. what happens after that? Did Pavunuthayi come back Alive? Where was the Gold? That's Thaai Kizhavi.

Be it Big or Small...All the Characters have been utilised, designed and written well. For example, the drunkard who prays for Pavunuthayi's death to Karuppu is a small character. He has been written well. A Japanese Doctor who speaks Good Tamil and makes Pavunuthayi sons understand the actual situation. He has been written well. Another Doctor who doesn't know Tamil much. He has been written well. Pavunuthayi's grandson..His role is small...However he has been written well. Be it Big or Small...All the characters have been utilised, designed and written well.
Minus:
More screen time for Radhika Sarathkumar would have added much more value to the movie.
Overall, A Beautiful Film that addresses the importance of women independence through Comedy. An Engaging and Entertaining Village Comedy!!!
