 Legendary Film maker "Iyakkunar Imayam" Bharathiraja passed away. May his Soul Rest in Peace!!! 

Many youngsters dream and aspire to become a Film maker one day. 

Director Bharathiraja has been a Source of Inspiration for many Film makers and to those who Aspire to become a Film maker one day.

There was a Time when Cinema was made in Studios. Indoor shooting was the convention. Director Bharathiraja broke the conventions and gave an authentic Rural Film called 16 Vayadhinile in his Directorial Debut. 16 Vayadhinile was shot in Live Locations. 16 vayadhinile reflected the Beauty and culture of villages and the behaviors of people naturally which become a sensation in 1977. Even today Chappani, Mayilu and Parattai characters are remembered. 

After 16 Vayadhinile, Director Bharathiraja Directed Kizhakke Pogum Rail, a Village Romantic Drama film. Kizhakke Pogum Rail ran for 365 days in many Theatres. 

After the success of Kizhake pogum rayil, there was a talk that Bharathiraja is good at making only rural based films. Bharathiraja broke such talks by Directing an Urban based Psychological Crime Thriller "Sigappu Rojakkal". Even today "Sigappu Rojakkal " is one of the Best Psychological crime Thrillers of Tamil and Indian cinema. 

Tik Tik Tik is another Urban Suspense Crime Thriller Directed by Bharathiraja. Tik Tik Tik addresses about Modeling, Diamond Smuggling and the model agency which is behind it. Tik Tik Tik was an Average success.

Bharathiraja introduced Karthik and Radha in Alaigal Oivathillai. It's a Film where a Hindu Brahmin boy falls in Love with a Christian girl. How did they unite after they face objection from their Families. 

The Film became Talk of the Town. Alaigal Oivadhallai addresses about Lovers dropping their respective religion for the sake of Love Relationship. It was simultaneously made in Telugu as "Seethakoka Chilaka". Seethakoka Chilaka won National Award.

Post 1970's and 1980's there were very few Directors who utilised the potential of Actor Sivaji Ganesan properly. Director Bharathiraja was one among the directors who utilised the potential of Actor Sivaji Ganesan properly in Mudhal Mariyathai. 

Bharathiraja's Mudhal Mariyathai was about the Love affair that's between an Unhappy married village chief and a boat woman. Mudhal Mariyathai won National Award. 

Director Bharathiraja's Vedham Pudhithu addresses about the caste system and the social issues around it. Vedham Pudhithu won National Award. 

Director Bharathiraja's Karuthamma addresses about Female Infanticide and the importance of Women to society. Karuthamma won National Award. 

Director Bharathiraja's Anthimantharai was about the tragic tale of a Freedom Fighter in today's society. Anthimantharai won National Award. 

Director Bharathiraja's Kadal Pookal won National Award in 2001.

Actresses Radhika Sarathkumar, Radha, Revathi, Rekha, Rati Agnihotri, Sri devi, Vijayashanti, Sukanya and Priyamani were introduced by Director Bharathiraja. Prior to 16 Vayadhinile, Sri Devi was a child artist. She was Introduced as a Lead Actress by Bharathiraja in 16 Vayadhinile. 

Actors Karthik, Pandiyan, Napoleon and Nizhalgal Ravi were introduced by Bharathiraja. 

Director Bharathiraja introduced Lyricist Vairamuthu to cinema through Nizhalgal Film.

His Voice at the beginning of his Films "En iniya Thamizh makkale" would always be remembered when you think of Bharathiraja.
